Linda Jean Skelton Hinshaw

Jun 29, 2021

Linda Jean Skelton Hinshaw was born on July 4, 1952, in Spencer, Iowa. to Russell and Arlene (Gibford) Skelton. She was raised along with her six siblings near Webb, Iowa, and was a graduate of South Clay High School also in Webb.

Linda was united in marriage to Jake Hinshaw on February 26, 1971, in Ruthven, Iowa, and in 2021 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together. The couple made their home and raised their four children in Arnolds Park, Iowa.

Linda devoted her life to the care of her family and service to others. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, Iowa, as a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Rosary Alter Society and a 20 year religious education teacher. Linda was a tireless rosary maker and trained several members of the parish on how to make them—a skill that was passed down to her from her mother.

Linda was known for her ready smile and positive attitude. Whether it was as an in-home childcare provider, a school cook of 28 years or an extremely popular sales clerk at Wal-Mart, she always had a kind word to those she helped. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, listening to music and visiting with her family and friends.

Linda passed away on June 29, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after a valiant five month battle with cancer. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, and friend. She was very loved and will be missed by many.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Jake Hinshaw of Arnolds Park; three sons—Michael (Jenny) Hinshaw of Andover, MN; Chris (Julie) Hinshaw of Milford, IA; Brian (Amie) Hinshaw of Arnolds Park, IA and one daughter—Mary (Travis) Olson of Wallingford, IA; eight grandchildren; siblings—Pat (Jim) Juza of Spencer, IA; Beth (Tom) Tanhoff of LeMars, IA; Sandy (Bob) Kemper of Estherville, IA; twin brother Bill Skelton of Sibley, IA; Wendy (Kevin) Mills of Marathon, IA; Betty Kay Skelton of Ames, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. May her spirit be forever present, she will be in our hearts always.

Burial will be held at a later date in the Okoboji View Cemetery, Arnolds Park, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
