Dee Dee Dianne McCoy, 73, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, July 27, 2024, at CrossWinds Church in Spirit Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com
Dee Dee was born on November 1, 1950, in Oskaloosa, IA, to Marvin and Marie (Wilson) Fenton. When she was three, her mother married Howard Belzer, who became her beloved “Dad”.
Dee Dee moved over 30 times in her life. Besides Oskaloosa, she also lived in Loveland, CO, Blythe, CA; San Berdino, CA; Milan, IL; Pleasant Valley, IA; Medford, OR; Reno, NV; Bettendorf, IA; Rock Island, IL; Davenport, IA, Milford, IA; and Spirit Lake, IA. Because of how many times she moved as a child, she dropped out of high school and eventually obtained her GED. She attended AIC Business School in Bettendorf to become an accountant but dropped out with one quarter left to move to Osky and be near her dad, who was suffering from cancer. A few years later, she attended Spencer School of Business in Spencer, IA, to become a medical assistant. Having worked for many years as a waitress and bartender she finally found her ideal position at Iowa Lakes Orthopedics in Spirit Lake, where she worked in medical records. Those were the happiest 19 years of her life.
Dee Dee loved reading, writing, attending Joyce Meyer conferences, collecting Annette Funicello memorabilia, doing Jumbles and Cryptograms and caring for wild cats, even adopting a few kittens through the years. Her most important accomplishment was when she invited Jesus into her life on March 21, 1978.
Dee Dee is survived by her two sons, Jeff (Lori) Williams of Spirit Lake, Brent McCoy and significant other Jess Stofferan of Spirit Lake; grandchildren, Nick Williams of Las Vegas, NV; Andrea Williams of Alamogordo, NM; and Marcus and Keira McCoy of Spirit Lake; two brothers, Cloyd Fenton of Cumby, TX; and Larry (Mary) Fenton of Oskaloosa, IA; a niece who lived with her for a while, Lynn Fenton Januszewsky of Cumby, TX; adopted sister, Jo McDonald of Milan, IL; and a very special family, Dave, Jen, Bogdan, and Katya Rettig of Spirit Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Dad (Howard), her husbands, Jim Williams and Mark McCoy; a brother, Jack Fenton, and her sister, Geraldine Fenton and her mother and father-in-law, Jeanne and Leon McCoy.
Per Dee Dee’s wishes, she has been cremated. She did ask that any donations be made to her favorite charities, Joyce Meyer Ministries, PO Box 655, Fenton, MO 63026-0655 (e-mail, joycemeyer.org) and the Annette Funicello Research Fund for Neurological Diseases, PO Box 599, Shafter, CA, 93263, (e-mail, annetteconnection.com).
“For I know the plans I have for you,” sayeth the Lord. “Plans for good and not evil, to give you a future and hope. In those days when you pray, I will Listen. If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 (LB)
