Bonnie Lavonne Mitchell, 94, of Spirit Lake passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Lakes Regional Healthcare.

A memorial service was held on Monday, October 22, 2018, at the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. There will be a private family burial in the Lakeland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Bonnie was born on April 8, 1924, in Stanhope, Iowa, to Harold and Nettie Hagan. She graduated from high school in Webster City. She was united in marriage to Donald Mitchell on June 3, 1946, in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2006, in Spirit Lake. Bonnie worked as the manager for the Spirit Lake Liquor Store. She also opened and operated the first H&R Block in Spirit Lake. 

Bonnie was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Spirit Lake. She enjoyed going to church and participating in Bible Study. In her younger days she taught and participated for 20 years in line dance. She and Donald looked forward every year to spending their winters in Texas. 

She is survived by her son Stan (Joyce) Mitchell of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter Janis (Doug) Leiss of Milford; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.
