Shirley Werner

Shirley Werner, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Okoboji and Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Heritage Pointe Assisted Living in Omaha, Nebraska. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, at 2:00pm, at the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home, formerly the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com.

Shirley Jean Werner was born March 27, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Jacob and Myrtle (Singer) Westvig. Myrtle died shortly after Shirley’s birth. A few years later, Jacob married Florence (Anderson) Westvig, and they raised Shirley together. Shirley graduated from high school in 1946. After, she attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota, School of Medical Technology in 1949. For 9 years she worked as a lab technician. On September 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Frederick (Fritz) Werner in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

Shirley was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge. In her free time, she enjoyed mahjong, bridge club, knitting and reading. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed traveling with her husband Fritz. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fritz, and daughter Nancy. Left to cherish her memory are her son,David Werner of Coralville, Iowa; daughter,Lisa Werner of Omaha, Nebraska; and grandchildren,Nikkole Werner, Brittney Werner, Zachary Luppen and Shelby Luppen.
