Shirley Ann Remele Stoll passed away May 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born to Jerry and Lila Remele (Woodward) on December 20, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, and attended Des Moines Roosevelt High School and Drake University, graduating with a major in Education in 1960.
She was a member of Questers, an antique organization, Delta Zeta Sorority, and was very active leader and volunteer with the Cedar Falls, Iowa Tri T – an organization that helps kids experience summer camps.
Throughout the years, she never met a human (or pet!) she didn’t love, and was a formal and informal Foster Mother and ‘Grandma Shirley’ to many! She was a wonderful elementary school teacher in both Des Moines, Iowa, and Waterloo, Iowa. She moved to Ames, Iowa, and cheered loudly for all Iowa State University sports! She then went on to pursue her passion — dealing antiques with her husband Bruce in Okoboji, Iowa, where they operated Summer Cottage Antiques, known for decorating many of the homes around Lake Okoboji.
Shirley’s favorite activities were meeting people, learning their stories, drinking a glass of Chardonnay, traveling, and organizing friend and family gatherings. She had a flair for entertaining and decorating! She had amazing culinary skills, and her secret recipe for lasagna was highly sought after. Shirley never missed watching the Spirit Lake fireworks or the annual Pancake Breakfast at Mini Wakan State Park. She also loved all animals, especially her grand-dogs!
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Bruce Stoll, and children, Susan Stoll Weedman (Brian) of Minnesota and Mark Stoll (Cassie) of Pennsylvania. Shirley loved her family deeply, especially her 8 grandchildren Caley Sokley, Trevor (Emily) Sokley, Isabella Stoll, Grant Weedman, Riley Weedman, Sophia Stoll, Clay Weedman, and Lillian Stoll.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Julie Sokley.
Following Shirley’s wishes, a celebration will be held in Okoboji, Iowa, this summer-date to be determined
