Sharon Rose “Kinniston” Caskey, 85, peacefully passed away at home on Monday, March 31, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
Services for Sharon and her son, Curtis Caskey, 58, of Sioux City, who preceded her in death on March 16, 2025, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. A visitation and reception will be held immediately following the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Caskey; son, Curtis Caskey; mother, Leona Fronk “Kinniston” Gray; father, Leo Kinniston; stepfather, Elmer Gray; sister, Donna; brother, Dick; and her faithful K-9 companion, Sadie. Sharon is survived by her children, Ric Caskey and Shelly Caskey; grandchildren, Halley Miller, Ian Caskey, Travis Caskey, and Demi Gruis; great-grandchildren, Riley Miller, Spencer Miller, Maximus Caskey, and Astrid Caskey; many nieces and nephews; and her cat, Delilah.
Born on October 30, 1939, at her family home in Orleans, Iowa, Sharon attended a one-room schoolhouse in Orleans and later graduated from Spirit Lake High School. On July 15, 1957, Sharon and Cecil Caskey began their 56-year marriage and many adventures.
Sharon wore many hats in her busy life. She was a registered nurse, owner/operator of “the Wren’s Nest” gift shop, lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, and dedicated community volunteer.
Sharon and Cecil traveled extensively, visiting friends, family, and various interesting sites worldwide. Their travels included trips to Europe to visit Shelly and Dubai to visit Ric and his family. They enjoyed exploring the U.S. and observing different lifestyles. Sharon’s love for Spirit Lake and the Lakes region always drew her back to her Iowa home of 85 years. She cherished her numerous friendships.
