Sarah Lundstrom, 94, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020, at Accura Healthcare of Spirit Lake.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Lakeland Memory Gardens in Spirit Lake. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com.

Sarah Rose Amdahl Lundstrom was born in Graettinger, IA on March 12, 1926, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Christensen Amdahl. She received her early education in Graettinger and Estherville, graduating from high school in West Bend, IA.

Following graduation, she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. She began and ended her teaching career in Spirit Lake, teaching kindergarten there for forty years, from 1945 to 1985. Following retirement, she did substitute teaching becoming the first teacher in the district to home school. Her first home schooled, and much-admired student was John Stockdale. Sarah retired completely from teaching in the early nineties. 

Sarah was inducted into the Hall of Achievement by the Spirit Lake Education Association (SLEA) in 2006.

On June 9, 1949, she was united in marriage to Dale Lundstrom and his young son, Gary. Dale was the owner of the Lundstrom Furniture and Floor Covering Store. Sarah took an active role after her teaching retirement, managing the store until its closing in 2001.

Sarah was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. She was especially active in her church at its inception in the early 1950s.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale Lundstrom; her parents, Anna and Joseph Amdahl; and her three sisters, Dorothy Gipner and her husband , Kenneth R. Gipner of Okoboji, IA; Ruth Sharp and her husband Dr. Lloyd Sharp, and Janiere Walker and her husband, Ronald Walker; and a beloved niece, Ruthie Sievers.

She is survived by her son, Gary and his wife, Carole from Rapid City, SD; four grandchildren, Karla Maroff of Laguna Beach, CA, Richard Lundstrom and his wife, Kim, of Rapid City, SD, Chad Lundstrom and his wife, Gina, of Park City, UT and Cory Lundstrom and his wife, Dr. Lisa of Rapid City, SD. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren; Megan & Derek Maroff; Jayla and Alex Lundstrom and Ashley & Macy Dale Lundstrom; three special nieces, Susan Sharp, Jade Sharp and Elizabeth Walker; three special nephews, K.J. Gipner, Bruce Walker and John Walker; a special cousin, Jospeh Thompson; and two special people,great-niece Kimberly Sievers Koppen and great-nephew, Charley Gipner Sievers; special family friends, Hans Appel, Don Sievers, Jan Kischer and Mary Quitno.
