Sara Mae Higgins Koepp passed away Friday night, August 5, 2022, in the skilled nursing facility (Accura) in Milford Iowa. Her family is thankful she is no longer suffering from the lymphoma she has battled since last year, and the complications of a recent compound fracture of her leg.
Sara was born on December 20, 1935, to Chrystal Higgins and George O. Higgins of Webb, Iowa.
She had earned a Master of Science degree in Library Science from Minnesota State University and served as public librarian in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and media specialist to Spirit Lake Public Schools until her retirement in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Roger Higgins; and her husband, Robert P Koepp.
She is survived by one sister, Mary Cady of Hampton, Iowa; one brother, Charles Higgins of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; three children: Kathryn, Susan, and David; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and nephews and nieces: Mary Cady of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Art Cady, Jr. of Hampton, Iowa; and Brian Winter of Grant, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held, at 11:00am, Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends and family to make contributions in Sara’s name to the Lakes Art Center which she has supported for many years.
