“Sally” Mary Ann Nitchals

Visitation for “Sally” Mary Ann Nitchals will be held at Henry Olson Funeral Chapel – Estherville on Saturday, July 10, 2021, 10:00 to 11:00am. 

A funeral service will be at Henry Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 11:00am,  with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. 

“Sally” Mary Ann Nitchals, daughter of Howard and Myrtle (Enderson) Payne, was born June 24, 1934, in rural Armstrong, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 87 years.

    She graduated from Estherville High School. She married Edgar Nitchals on April 26, 1952, in Jackson, Minnesota. They made their home in Estherville, Iowa. The couple enjoyed dancing at Fox Lake and camping at Marble Beach throughout the years.

     Sally worked at the Estherville High School Cafeteria for 30 years retiring in 2001. She also worked at Avera Holy Family Hospital for 10 years.

    Sally was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Sally was incredibly talented and crafty; she enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and flowers. Baking brought Sally great enjoyment, especially at Christmas time when she would make the best tea ring and caramels. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

    Sally is survived by her daughter, Barb (Mark) Raboin of Jackson, MN; sons, Daryl Nitchals of New Richmond, WI, and Richard Nitchals and Jody Crocker of Estherville, Iowa; sisters, Helen Nitchals of Estherville, Annabell (Bob) Soat of Spirit Lake; and sister-in-law, Ella Dedman of Carey, ID. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jason Foster, Ryan Foster, Jake Nitchals, Jessica Nitchals, Matthew Nitchals, Joe Nitchals, Jon Nitchals, Kyle Nitchals, Thomas Nitchals, and Hannah Nitchals; and 17 great grandchildren.  

    She has been preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed; son, Duane Nitchals; brothers, Jimmy, Jerry, and George Payne; and brother-in-law Lee Nitchals.
