Bob was born January 2, 1946, in Sibley, Iowa, to Johnnie and Jeanette (Oldenkamp) Peters. The family moved to Paullina where Bob graduated from high school when he was 16 years old. By age 19, Bob had graduated from Westmar College with a degree in social work and was employed by the Iowa Department of Human Services. This began a 37-year career with IDHS. By the time he retired, Bob was a Regional Administrator supervising staff and services for one fifth of the state of Iowa.
In 2001, Bob married Jean Pigg Dowhower. Together they fished the lakes of Iowa. Bob loved to tell stories about how Jean could out fish him even though she couldn’t bait a hook. In retirement Bob dabbled with jobs as a Disaster Relief Administrator with FEMA, City Administrator of the City of Dakota City, Nebraska, and consultant to the State of Michigan Department of Human Services.
Bob fiercely loved his family, friends, work, and fishing.
Bob is survived by his wife Jean; his children, Robb Peters, Alissa Smith (Mac), Melissa Lubinski (Vic); bonus children, Mitch Dowhower (Sheena), Britni Harris (Jason) and Kristal Stewart (Lauren); 18 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Sandra Miller (Jim), Ruth Recker (Steve); brother, Ron Peters (Barb); sister-in-law, Kathy Peters; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Peters, daughter-in-law Brenda Peters, grandson Blake Robert Peters and granddaughter Brittany Peters.
