Robert “Bob” Henry Boettcher, 100, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Accura Healthcare of Spirit Lake.
A graveside service will be held in the Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Okoboji. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Timpe Post #23 and the VFW John W. Kidd Post #4514,both of Spirit Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Online condolences may be left at www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com.
Bob was born on January 23, 1924, to Emil and Rose (Sievers) Boettcher in Spirit Lake, IA. After he graduated from Spirit Lake High School, he enlisted in the US Army. He served his country during World War II and the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and began his working career. Over the years, he has held many important roles in his community that he loved so much. Some of which include, working for the DNR where he designed the sewer system at the fish hatchery, owning and operating his own used car dealership, Bob’s Auto Sales in Spirit Lake; serving on the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District board for over 25 years, some of which was as president and serving as mayor of Spirit Lake from 1979 -1989. He was united in marriage to Eileen Greaber on February 15, 1953.
In his free time, he enjoyed having conversations about the history of Dickinson County. He could always be found on Wednesdays at the Dickinson County Museum where he would answer any questions visitors would have. He also enjoyed going fishing and exploring the beautiful area he lived in.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Boettcher of Spirit Lake, and his son, Ron (Karla) Boettcher of Jackson, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers,Walt, Ray and Willie; and his sister, Loraine Blair.
