Richard P. Bruns, 87, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake.

Richard was born on January 17, 1935, the son of Joseph and Nina (Zesiger) Bruns in Spirit Lake. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School. He was later united in marriage to Sonja Bowden on October 16, 1953, in Worthington, MN. The two spent their days raising their family and working on the family farm.
He was a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. In his free time, Richard could be found spending his time outdoors hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja Bruns of Spirit Lake; children, Dennis (Ann) Bruns of Slater, IA; Jospeh (Joan) Bruns of Edmond, OK; Lorrie (Mark) Graettinger of Terril, IA; and Sherri (Thomas) Burke of Fulda, MN; 10 grandchildren, Richard, Alex, Cortney, Aaron, Paul, Michael, Daniel, Collin, Adam and Andrew; 4 great-grandchildren, Hugo, Gabrielle, Zoey, and Noraly; and sisters, Sandra Ross of Okoboji and Janice (Bob) Ayliffe (Kline)of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Irel Bruns; sister, Sharon Thorn and a great-grandson, Bennett Burke.
