Raymond Lloyd Jaycox, 96, passed away on May 20, 2023, in Lake Park, Iowa.
Ray, the son of Delbert and Mary Jaycox, was born on January 13, 1927, on the family farm near Crofton, Nebraska. Ray spent his childhood in Crofton until his family moved to Lake Park, IA in 1942. Due to Ray’s father’s health, he did not attend high school because he was needed on the family farm.
Ray was drafted into the United States Army in 1950 and served part of his enlistment in Korea until being honorably discharged in 1952. Following his discharge, he farmed with his mother from 1952 until 1956. Ray had a desire to own and operate his own business, and when the opportunity arose to purchase the International Harvester Dealership in Lake Park from Les Rowe, he jumped at the chance for entrepreneurship. Jaycox Implement grew from one location with 4 employees to 3 locations with over 90 employees.
Ray liked to attend dances at the Roof Garden in Okoboji, IA, and during the summer of 1959, he met his future soulmate, Arlene. In December of 1961, Ray and Arlene were married in the middle of a snowstorm at a small Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove, IA, and warmed up afterwards on a honeymoon to Mexico. Ray and Arlene were married for 61 inseparable, wonderful years.
Ray and Arlene shared their life together on the beautiful Silver Lake in Lake Park, Iowa. They had interests in the same hobbies. In their time away from the implement, you could find them together, whether it be on the lake or the golf course. Upon Ray’s retirement, Ray and Arlene purchased a winter home in Venice, Florida, and created many new lifelong friendships, making wonderful memories.
Ray loved his family more than anything else. He always made time for his children and grandchildren to attend their many events. He especially loved giving advice to his grandchildren, whether it was wanted from them or not.
Ray will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his son Bart (Pam) Jaycox of Plymouth, MN, and their children, Breanna and Ellyn; his son Chad (Kristin) Jaycox of Worthington, MN, and their children, Allison (Bennett), Stephanie, and Tyler; his brother Marian Jaycox; his sister Elaine Morphew; extended family, and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Arlene Jaycox; his infant daughter, Laurie Ray Jaycox; his parents, Delbert and Mary (Jungclaus) Jaycox; 3 sisters, Lavonne Wells, Alice Mayden, and Margaret Brash; and 5 brothers, Leroy Tinkom, Rex, Donald, Ralph, and James Jaycox.
