It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Polly Connors, who left us peacefully on February 12, 2025. She was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend. Polly was born August 23 in Adair, Iowa, to Earl and Frances Duffy Connors, the third of three daughters. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of everyone she met with her kindness, warmth, and generosity.
Polly graduated from St. Lawrence Elementary and Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll, Iowa. Polly went on to earn her Master’s degree at the University of South Dakota, majoring in Special Education. She furthered her education and earned another Master’s degree in reading literacy from Drake University. Polly worked at Prairie Lakes AEA as a Special Ed Consultant. She loved helping children and families become the best version of themselves.
Polly was a dedicated teacher who truly loved life. Her zest for living was evident in her unwavering optimism, boundless energy, and joy in everyday moments. She cherished her family, friends, and faith above all else. Her family will always remember her for her unwavering love, strength, and the laughter she brought into their lives. Polly had a passion for antiques, golfing, and having fun. Polly and her mother ran The Antique Shop in Arnolds Park from 1977 to 2015. She was the City Champ in Spencer, Iowa, for women’s golf! Her vibrant spirit will live on in the memories of all who knew her.
Polly’s life was enriched by her profound love for animals. Her compassion extended beyond her own animals. As a steadfast advocate for animal welfare, she volunteered at the local shelter.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Frances Connors and her sister Cae (Dr. RJ) Shima. She is survived by her sister, Toni Whannel (Jay); nephew, Jay Whannel (Liz); and 2 great-nephews, Connor and Austin Whannel.
A funeral service was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, Iowa, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery. Following burial, Polly’s final party was held at The Ritz in Arnolds Park, Iowa.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten!
