Pamela “Pam” Kragt, 77, of Cedar Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Nation Cottage at Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Pamela Kae Kragt was born on March 12, 1947, in Primghar, Iowa, to Arlington Ferdinand and Rosa Mae (Green) Ericson. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School and went on to earn a degree in education from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She was crowned Miss Sioux City and Miss Iowa in 1966 and went on to compete in the Miss America pageant.
She was united in marriage to Dr. John B. Kragt on December 16, 1983, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Pam began her career as a teacher in Havelock, Iowa, was a bookkeeper at West Bend International and later was the office manager for John’s Chiropractic Business in Emmetsburg, Iowa. When they moved to Spirit Lake, she was a real estate agent for Dowden Hinn Realtors and Stauss Realty.
She was a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church where she was very active and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed singing and competing with the Spirit of Harmony Chorus (Sweet Adelines) and the Harmony group. In her free time, she enjoyed playing the piano and singing.
Pam is survived by her husband, Dr. John B. Kragt of Cedar Falls, IA; daughter, Dawn (Frank) Schmidt of West Bend, IA; son, Brett Fehr of Algona, IA; step children Dan Kragt (Elizabeth) of St. Paul, MN; Tom (Nancy) Kragt of Anchorage, AK; and Michele Kersten of Sea Bright, NJ; 4 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; her brother, Gerald (Nancy) Ericson of Mason City, Iowa, and her sister-in-law, Lorna Ericson of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlington and Rosa Mae Ericson, brother, Laurel Ericson, and step son-in-law, Tom Kersten.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Western Homes in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Inurnment will take place in the Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, IA, at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
