Norman “Stormin Norman” Stanley Swanson, age 74, of Milford, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Born in 1951 in Burlington, Iowa, Norman was the son of Valerie Lou Burrus (Salsberry) and Claremont Harry Swanson. He graduated from Central Lee High School in 1969 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army as an infantryman. After his service, Norman worked for many years at Gleason Corporation before relocating to Milford, where he later retired from Walmart.
Norman was known for his warm personality, quick wit, and love of humor. He enjoyed engaging with others, sharing jokes, and even pulling the occasional prank. Family was at the heart of Norman’s life and he treasured his daily phone calls, FaceTime chats, and time spent with loved ones. He had a passion for dirt track racing, working on cars and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
In 1973, Norman married Judy Brentise (Swanson), with whom he had three children: Scott Swanson of New London, IA; Stacy Weatherly of Ankeny, IA; LaJuanah (Sean) Herdrich of Manchester, IA. Though they later divorced, Norman remained a proud and devoted father.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Angie Swanson and her three children: Dakota, Ashton, and Hunter, all of Milford, who loved him dearly.
Norman is also survived by his brothers: Steve (Janet) Swanson of West Burlington, IA and Wayne (Carolyn) Salsberry of Littlefield, TX, grandchildren: Dakota (Grace) Swanson, Britney Good, Kristina (Jeremy) Mather, Aerial Weatherly; mother-in-law, Kathy Hesseltine, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Valerie, father Claremont, and step-father Wayne Salsberry, and many extended family members.
