A Celebration of Life for Nancy Younie, age 74, of Lake Park will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 10:30am, at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will take place prior to the service, from 9:30-10:30am, at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Younie family to be divided between Nancy’s favorite organizations.
Nancy Ruth Younie, daughter of Roland (Red) and Esther Helen (Bisbee) Brown, was born January 24, 1948, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School and went on to receive a secretarial degree from Mankato Commercial College.
Nancy was the middle school secretary for the Cherokee Community School District for thirty years. After her retirement, she moved to her home on Silver Lake near Lake Park, Iowa.
Traveling was an important part of Nancy’s life and she was able to visit 46 states, England, Wales and Canada. She traveled with friends to various southern states for part of seven winters. She also enjoyed her cat, Hershey, reading, painting, crafting and playing cards.
Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park where she served as an Elder. She was also a member of the Lake Chapter of the D.A.R. and the Lake Park Historical Society.
Nancy passed away September 24, 2022, in Cherokee, Iowa, at seventy-four years of age.
Nancy is survived by her son, Mark (Lynn) Younie of Cherokee, Iowa; son, Matthew (Chandra) Younie of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother, Thomas (Lori) Brown of Oregon, Illinois; grandchildren, Colton, Catelyn, Warren, Shane, Brandon and Chantal; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ethan, Dawson, Parker, Caydence and Carter; nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Caleb.
