Mr. Darrel Madagan, age 75, of Scottsboro, Alabama, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Darrel was born on September 29, 1949, to the late John and Elva Madagan in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
After growing up on a rural farm in Iowa and upon graduating high school in 1968, Darrel joined the United States Navy in which he served and retired as an aviation machinist mate. He then retired with a 34 year career from the Stevenson papermill as a wet end operator and EMT responder. Darrel’s greatest joys in life were, being a follower of Christ, spending time with his family, being an active member of 24 years at Trinity Baptist Church, serving others, building CASA ramps, being a member of VFW Post 6073, and his joy for food and fellowship.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Ruth Madagan; sons, John David (Angie) Madagan, and Josh (Katherine) Thompson; grandchildren, Kaleigh Madagan, Ashleigh (Chance) Pepper, Thackery Thompson and grandbaby number four John Porter Thompson due in June; great- grandchildren, Ian Madagan, and great grandbaby number two Greyson Madagan due in June; sisters, Virginia Moore, Lola (Marlin) Kness, and Carol Stephens; brother, Dean (Thelma) Madagan. He also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members, and also friends who will sadly miss him.
Darrel was preceded in death by his sister and brothers-in-law: Betty (Jerry) Moore, Lee Moore and Harold Stephens; father and mother-in-law, Irvin and Mary Lancaster.
Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church of Scottsboro with Pastor Duaine Griggs officiating on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 2 PM, with visitation from 12-2. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to CASA of Jackson County, an organization Darrel was passionate about and helped participate in building ramps with.
