A public visitation for Miriam Peton will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, from 9:00 until 10:30am, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Burial will take place at Valley View Cemetery in Graettinger. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to set up a memorial for Miriam’s favorite charities.
Miriam Janeice Peton, daughter of Paul and Sophie (Bondhus) Peton, Sr., was born July 24, 1939, in Graettinger, Iowa, on the family farm. She was baptized July 25, 1939, by Pastor M. Maudsager. She passed away on August 5, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 81 years.
Miriam attended school in Graettinger and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1958. After high school, Miriam worked at the Graettinger Telephone Coop as a phone operator until 1968 when she started working with Berkley Industries until her retirement in 2004.
The Graettinger area was home to Miriam her entire life and she devoted her time caring for her twin sister Marilyn and her mother Sophie while they were alive. She was a lifelong member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. Miriam was active in the quilting and church circles, as well as a member of the prayer team. Miriam enjoyed her daily social gatherings with friends over a pop to catch up on the latest news. Serving birthday cake monthly at Lakeside Lutheran Home as a member of the auxiliary brought her great joy. She enjoyed listening to vintage records and was a passionate Elvis Presley fan.
Miriam’s family consisted of her numerous nieces and nephews who live across the United States. She loved them immensely and would stay connected through birthday and Christmas cards, and occasionally a handwritten letter to catch up on the family happenings.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elaine (Peton) Dalen, Marilyn Jean Peton (her twin sister), brothers, Euclaire, Donald, Clifford and Paul Jr. Peton.
She is survived by her brother, Richard of Estherville, Iowa, her sister-in-law, Lavon Peton from Graettinger; three generations of nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and friends.
