Michael “Mick” L. Noteboom of Davenport, formerly of Milford, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Promedica Skilled Nursing in Davenport, Iowa.
Per his wishes he will be cremated and inurned at the Rock Island Arsenal. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 2:00pm on Monday, May 2, at Faith United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
Michael Lorrain Noteboom was born September 27, 1929, to Michael and Lillian Husman Noteboom in Brandt, South Dakota. The family moved to the Canton, South Dakota, area where Mick attended school and graduated from high school in May of 1947. After working in the construction industry for a few years,he joined the United States Marine Corps on December 26, 1950. He taught a radio technicians course and attained the rank of Staff Sargent before being discharged in December 1953.
On May 23, 1954, he married Ceceile Watrous who brought two children, Evon Marie and Karla Kay to the marriage. Together they had a son, Michael William. They later divorced.
On May 31, 1975, he married Karleen Westberg Tingle who brought three children to the marriage, Shara Lynne, Kyle Lee and Dawn Marie. They raised their four children together.
Mick spent his working years in the construction business. He was a bricklayer before becoming a general contractor. After he retired in 2008, he organized, planned and supervised the renovation of the storefronts of downtown Milford, Iowa.
He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with his family.
He had served on the Milford City council, was a member of the American Legion Post #384 in Milford, IA, and had been a member of the Northwest Iowa Home Builders, Iowa Great Lakes Ministry board and was an Ambassador for KJIA Christian radio. He was active in the churches he attended and taught Sunday School in those churches including Faith United Church of Christ where he was a member and had led a Bible Study at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Milford, Iowa.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Karleen;son Michael “Mick” (Julie) their children Adrianna (Andy) Mullins, Telma, Joshua and Isaac;step-children Shara (George) Rangel, Kyle (Patricia) Tingle their children, Waverly, Ryan, Kevin and Kaileig;Dawn (Kent) Hughes their children Kara and El; sister Marlyce, sister-in-law Dione Young, sister-in-law Janelle (Michael) O’Connor, brother-in-law Edward (MaryAnn) Westberg, son-in-law Ronald Loontjer, step-grandchildren Stacy & Brian Lind, Becky Loontjer, and Joanie (Tarik) Houti, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edwin and Verde, sisters Jeanette, Nelvyna, Darleen, and Marynel; stepdaughters Evon Loontjer and Karla and son-in-law,Gary Lind.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Community Center in Milford, Iowa,on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
