A visitation for Melvin Reimers, age 91, of Lakefield, Minnesota, was held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park.
Melvin (Mel) Leroy Reimers passed away on July 6, 2025, at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
He was the oldest born to Harry and Elvera (Bunning) Reimers on December 5th, 1933, in Lake Park, Iowa. He spent his early childhood in Round Lake, MN, where he first attended country school before his family moved to Lake Park and later graduated in 1952. Melvin married Lorraine Wulf on June 27th, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958, during which time he was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Mel and Lorraine began their life on the farm in Sioux Valley, where they shared 67 years together and raised their family until Lorraine’s passing in 2021.
Mel was known for his love for farming and fishing. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage, taking snowmobiling trips with friends, and his fishing trips with Lorraine and family. Despite facing lifelong health challenges, Melvin’s attitude remained steadfast and persistent, and he never allowed his condition to interfere with his happiness or ability to live life to the fullest. Mel was also known for being stubborn at times. This trait allowed him to survive raising his 5 sons, who gave him a run for his money, although he returned the favor later in life. Mel was most proud of his boys and the life he and Lorraine built together.
He is survived by five sons: Randall (Cindy) Reimers, Richard (Ranae) Reimers, David (Elaine) Reimers, Daniel (Julie) Reimers, and Kenneth Reimers; 12 grandchildren, Amber Dahlsten, Brady Reimers, Nathan (Emily) Menk, Amanda (Joseph) Hefner, Michael Reimers, Mitchel (Sara) Reimers, Roshay (Tyson) Gath, Scott Reimers, Bryan (Nikki) Reimers, Angela (Jared) Johnson, Ashly (Connor) Grussing, Maria (Ben) Rolf; 19 great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Gage, and Journey Dahlsten; Ivy Ehrler; Benjamin Hefner; Lucas, Lauren, and Logan Reimers; Whitney, Evan, and Emma Gath; Syncer Gregg; Payton, Morgan, Easton, and Emersyn Reimers; Everly and Gracelyn Johnson; and Bradley Grussing and 1 great-great grandchild Blakelynn Hirbe.
He is also survived by his sister Harriet (Harvey) Hansen, brother Robert (Rita) Reimers, brothers-in-law Lyle Heuer and Merle Clark, and sister-in-law Delores Craig, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; parents; sisters, Janice Clark and Phyllis Heuer; and sister-in-law, LaVonne and her husband, Lloyd Hutzler, and brother-in-law, Fred Craig.
