October 17, 2018

Marge Husen, 91, of Okoboji, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

A mass of Christian burial was Monday, October 22, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Burial was in the St. Margaret’s Cemetery. The Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.spiritlakefuneralhome.com.

Marge was born in Williams, Iowa, on May 20, 1927, the daughter of Clem and Evelyn Luken. Her early years were spent in Williams, later moving to Fort Dodge. She graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Carroll, in 1948, and worked as an R.N. In 1952 she married Earl Husen and they became the parents of three children, Mona, Meg, and Kile. Marge was active in her career of nursing as well as being a homemaker and wife. Her years of nursing included hospital nurse, school nurse, and the last 20+ years as clinical nurse at Spirit Lake Medical Center.

She was caring and empathetic to her patients who still take time to say “We just loved Marge as our nurse. She was always so nice.”
Marge enjoyed an active social life of golf, playing bridge, and meeting friends for morning coffee and dining out. Our favorite memories are of Mom sharing her time with her children and grandchildren with vacations up to Northern Minnesota and south to Florida. Marge was generous with making memories with each of us. Of course, many of the memories were right at her condo: swimming, watching ISU games, cooking meals, and just “hanging out” with Mom and Grandma.

Left with loving memories are children Mona (Tim) Knudson of Milford; Meg Husen of Des Moines; and Kile (Erin) Husen of St. Paul, MN.; five grandchildren, Brigitte, Brady, Jennifer, Tom and Claire; two step grandchildren, Brittney and Brayden; a sister Ramona Lee of Ames; nephews Rich (Molly) Lee and Doug (Cindy) Lee; nieces Amy (Mike) Lee Blaess and Stacy (David) Lee Phelps.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl and her parents.
