A funeral service for Margaret Thelma Wedeking will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. Visitation will begin at 5 pm, Monday, March 11, 2024, with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Spirit Lake Memorial Gardens in Spirit Lake.
Margaret Thelma Kness Wedeking was born to Cloid and Margaret (McNab) Kness on October 20, 1929, in Harris, Iowa. She graduated in 1947 and moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where she worked in a telephone office. In 1948, she moved back to Spirit Lake and met her future husband, Herman Wedeking. They were married on May 28, 1950, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Margaret and Herman were blessed with five children.
In 1958, Herman and Margaret started their business, Wedeking Construction Inc., and operated the company until they retired in 1986. After retiring, they drove truck for International Transport for six years. They traveled throughout Canada and drove to every state in the U.S. except Hawaii and Alaska. Even after visiting every state in the U.S., Margaret still claimed that her favorite state was Iowa. In their free time, they enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling.
Margaret was very active as a den mother for both girl scouts and boy scouts in Spirit Lake and she taught Sunday School for many years at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake and Montgomery. Margaret loved a good game of cards; she always had her deck ready!
Margaret passed away February 25, 2024, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa, at ninety-four years of age.
She is survived by her children, Wendy Radcliffe, Steve Wedeking (Nelda), Dan Wedeking, Charlie Wedeking (Rhonda) and Sam Wedeking; eight grandchildren, Benjamin (Kristen) Radcliffe, Jennifer (Derek) Franker, Jessica (Terry) Williams, Steven (Jamie) Wedeking, Staci Wedeking, Keith Wedeking, Ashley Hawn and Sammy Jo Wedeking (Dennis Johnston); thirteen great-grandchildren, Gavin, Garret, Reese, Kyla, Haley(John), Nick, Jack, Lauren, Evan Rose, Darrel, Ember, Nox, Willow; and one great-great-grandchild, Carter.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Cloid and Margaret Kness; husband, Herman in 2008; son-in-law, Tom Radcliffe; daughter-in-law, Sherri Wedeking; siblings, Idelle, Delores, Lyle, Dale, Harold and James.
