LaVonne Kness, 91, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services were held Friday, July 8, at the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Memory Gardens. Visitation took place on Thursday, July 7, at the Schuchert Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Arrangements were under the direction of the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. LaVonne Betty Kness was born January 23, 1931, in Worthington, Minnesota, to Cliff and Myrtle (Krieth) Selberg. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1949. On December 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Dale “Red” Kness in Ocheyedan, Iowa. They made their home in Spirit Lake.
LaVonne worked for Berkley Fishing for many years. She started out as a home worker and retired as a lead in the bait department. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Each Wednesday they would have supper together. LaVonne was their biggest supporter in all their activities. She made every event possible. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing, along with her coffee group and gardening. LaVonne was a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church and TOPS.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband Dale, son Dave, her parents, brothers Melvin “Bud” and Eugene and sisters Mariam, and Charlene. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Doug (Sally) Kness; grandchildren, Jill (Chris) Bonrud and Darrin Kness; great-grandchildren Grady and Gannon, all from Spirit Lake; sister, Donna Vicklun of Rapid City, SD; brothers, Ron Selberg of Beaumont, California, and Jerry (Carol) Selberg of Corvallis, OR; and sister-in-law Margaret Wedeking of Spirit Lake; along with many nieces and nephews.
