Larry “Zig” Ziegler passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, at his home with his beloved puppy, Cache “Cash” by his side.
Larry was born July 14, 1961, to Dale and Helen (Crotty) Ziegler. He graduated from Milford High School and then from The University of South Dakota.
He lived in Denver, Colorado, for over 30 years, but his heart was always in Iowa. In recent years he moved back to his home state.
Larry worked for Sysco Foods for 25 years as a Sales Consultant and was a consummate “Foodie”. He loved his job and the chefs with whom he worked.
Larry was the ultimate outdoor person enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, biking and golfing. He also loved cheering on his Iowa Hawkeyes.
Larry enjoyed unwinding with friends at his favorite Friday night gathering spot; Caffery’s Sports Pub in Waukee. He also loved the Okoboji area and was living in between Waukee and a cabin on Spirit Lake.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Dale Ziegler; mother, Helen (Crotty) Ziegler; brother, John Ziegler; sister, Linda Thompson; sister, Julie Schmidt; and nephew, Cody Marmet.
He is survived by his brother, Jim Ziegler, and his wife, Amy (kids, Caden and Campbell), from Urbandale, IA. Niece, Haley Johannesen, and husband, Brian (kids, Cecilia and Henry), of Iowa City, IA. Brother-in-law, Juan Schmidt of Georgetown, TX; niece, Lacey Schmidt (sons Miles and Jack), of Morris Plains, NJ; nephew, Kyle Schmidt (partner Alexis Mejenes) of Amsterdam; nephew, Joel and Heather Schmidt (kids Ryder, Harper, and Skylar) of Montezuma, IA, and niece, Jadee and Mark Vecchietti (son Jaxon) of Austin, TX. He is also survived by many close friends, cousins, and co-workers.
He also leaves behind his pride and joy, his 2-year-old silver Labrador retriever, Cache “Cash”. A special thank you to Alyssa James, who will be taking over the care of her; Larry would have not wanted it any other way.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held on July 19, 2025, from 2:00 – 5:00 at Sawmill Park in Arnolds Park.
