Kay Ann Gengler, age 87, of Arnolds Park, Iowa, and formerly of Remsen, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at her home in Arnolds Park, Iowa, and is now at peace with the Lord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa, with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating. A private burial with family will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation with family present will be 4:00 – 7:00pm, on Tuesday, with a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5:00pm, all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA. Visitation will resume from 9:30 – 10:15am, on Wednesday, at the church. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. www.fischfh.com
Kay was born on February 9, 1937, to Harvey and,Genevieve (Wallen) Christiansen of Sioux City, Iowa. She was raised in Sioux City and attended Central High School.
On May 30, 1962, she married Daryl Gengler, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home on the Gengler family farm where they raised their six children. Upon retiring in 1995, they moved to Arnolds Park to be near their best friends, Jack and Pam Niggeling.
In Remsen, Kay worked at Jerry & Angie’s Café for many years. She was on a bowling team in which great memories were made. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church until she moved, and then became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Milford.
Daryl and Kay spent 62 years enjoying card club with the same close group of friends. They spent 20 winters in San Juan, Texas, where they made many new long and lasting friendships.
She dearly loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She welcomed everyone that visited their lake home and treated them all like family. She loved them all and had a huge heart. She spent countless hours at weekly BINGO, playing cards and dominos with friends. She loved garage sales, finding a good deal, diet cokes from McDonald’s and Dairy Queen blizzards.
She is survived by her husband, Daryl,of 62 years; their six children, Chris (Dave) Sonnichsen, Dan (Dalene) Gengler both of Remsen, IA; Joe (Theresse) Gengler, Nick (Missy) Gengler both of Sioux City, IA; Cheri (Russ) Klemme of Spencer, IA; Deb (Scott) Albert of LeMars, IA; thirteen grandchildren, Allie (Jeff) Homan, Colin Sonnichsen, Nate (Sadie) Keleher, Krystine (Mario) Rassel, Matthew (Miranda) Klemme, Michael (Sanya) Klemme, Marcus Klemme, Mallory Klemme, Kayla (Ryan) Schroeder, Jenna Gengler, Tia (Emerson) Rodas, Tanisha (Trevor) Nelson, Briana Gengler; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother,Gene (Pat) Christiansen; one sister,Ginger Osterholt; two brothers-in-law, Paul Baker and Paul (Jeanette) Gengler, sisters-in-law, Ann Gengler and Mary Gengler; several nieces and nephews, whom she cherished very much.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Genevieve Christiansen; her in-laws, Leo and Ann Gengler; sister,Candi Baker; brothers-in-law, Marv Gengler and Donald Gengler; sisters-in law, JoAnn (Donald) Nitzschke and Ethel (Paul) Kosse; great-grandchild,Julian Rassel.
