Kaiya Joy Wright

Jun 15, 2026

A Celebration of Life for 5-year-old Kaiya Joy Wright, of Spirit Lake, was held Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Sami Center in Spirit Lake.
Kaiya Joy was born on August 28, 2020, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and passed into the arms of Jesus on June 15, 2026, at the age of five. She is survived by her mom, Amber Dean; her brothers, Ajay and Anthony; her grandparents, Kara and Greg Dean; her uncle, Tyler Dean; her cousin, Brooks; and a countless number of friends, teachers, caregivers, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her.
Kaiya was a bright light who brought joy to everyone she met. She was known for her beautiful curly hair, her determination, true happiness and that radiant smile which could brighten any room and instantly make someone’s day.
Kaiya enjoyed McDonald’s French fries, goldfish, music, books, blankets, and spending time outdoors, especially going for walks. She also liked Ms. Rachel, Jack Hartmann, The Little Mermaid, and Moana. She loved riding her bike, swimming, swinging, taking baths, and attending school. She loved her crazy hair and never missed an opportunity to flash her unforgettable smile.
She was strong, determined, and always ready for a physical challenge. One of her teachers shared how much she loved watching Kaiya’s personality blossom, recalling the occasional bit of sass that would make everyone smile. Another teacher fondly remembered helping Kaiya find her voice through her eye-gaze communication device. Kaiya loved saying “Hi,” “Bye,” and especially “Merry Christmas”—whether it was Christmas time or not. She would giggle and smile while learning, occasionally giving a playful eye roll as if to say, “Someone tell her I just want to play!”
Recently, Kaiya had learned her colors and was always eager to learn more. She was known at her school for her friendliness and happiness. Teachers would often stop in the hallways just to say hello to Kaiya, and she would brighten their day with that beautiful smile.
In her five short years, Kaiya taught those around her the meaning of resilience, determination, unconditional love, and pure joy. While her family and friends will miss her deeply, they find comfort in knowing that her beautiful smile, loving heart, and joyful spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Arrangements were under the care of Turner Jenness Funeral Home.
