Judy Sperling, age 74, formerly of Sioux Falls, SD, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in San Antonio, TX, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Celebration of Judy’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, Canton, SD. Family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service.
Judy was born on February 15, 1949, in Bridgewater, SD, to William “Bill” and Helen (Lynn) McCann. She grew up and attended school in Bridgewater, graduating from Bridgewater High School in 1967. After graduation, she attended Nettleton Business College in Omaha, NE. She was united in marriage to Robert Sperling on December 21, 1968, in Canton, SD. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Cindy and Carrie.
In addition to raising her daughters, Judy worked in the Minnehaha County Auditor’s Office for the duration of her career, retiring in 2014. After retirement, she moved to Arizona and later Texas.
Judy was a member of the Catholic Church, The Red Hat Society, and the Minnehaha-Lincoln County Republican Women.
Judy loved spending time at her cabin in Okoboji, sewing, collecting, organizing, painting, doing crafts, and gardening. She also treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for being able to light up a room with her smile and for often arriving fashionably late.
Grateful for sharing her life are her daughters, Cindy (Robert), and Carrie (Terry) Styles; grandchildren, Blaine (Eileen Mabry) Styles, Jacob (Shani), Erika, and Tiffany (Robbie); great-grandchildren, Hayden, Ashlyn, Iselin, and Owen; siblings, Barbie (Ed) Meyer, Connie Sweeter, Kevin (Cheryl) McCann, and Carol Kruse; special friend, Ron Hammer; life-long best friend, Sharon Redenius; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
