Judy was born on July 23, 1943, to Doyle and Vivian (Willison) Davis. She attended Harrisburg (SD) Schools and then graduated from Humboldt High School in 1961. She was united in marriage on September 23, 1961, to LeRoy E. Schoon.
She worked as a nurse’s aide and ward clerk at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee from 1961 to 1967 and then went to work with her husband at Schoon Construction until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Judy was active in the community with Beta Sigma Phi, Red Hat Society, the Hospital Auxiliary group, and volunteered at the Cherokee Library Archives.
Judy spent 18 years traveling in the RV with LeRoy to many places; Tucson and a 7-week trip to Alaska were their favorites. She and LeRoy enjoyed many scooter rides together and giving great grandkids rides too. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with family at Okoboji boating and watching the kids play in the water. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, or playing games with her grandkids and great grandkids. Golf was one of her favorite hobbies. She loved golfing with a group of ladies every week in a tournament somewhere, with her family, or even just riding around in the golf cart watching her family golf. She loved chatting with friends over coffee either at the Copper Cup in Cherokee, various places in Spirit Lake, or simply on her porch or deck at home. Her home was always open to friends and family and made anyone who stopped by feel welcome with her warmth, kindness, and caring nature. Her smile was contagious, her laugh was delightful, and her hugs were a warm embrace with a loving squeeze. Her compassionate, vivacious, jovial spirit will be missed by many and memories cherished forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian and Doyle Davis, brother Denny Davis; brother-in-law Richard McKenna, sister-in-law Colleen Davis, father-in-law and mother-in-law Egbert and Elizabeth Schoon; and brother-in-law Ernest Schoon.
Judy will lovingly be remembered by her husband, LeRoy Schoon of Spirit Lake, Iowa; daughter, Brenda (Jim) Perrin of Cherokee, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) Perrin of Grimes, Iowa; Lyndsay (Brent) Wolfswinkel of Cherokee, Iowa; Jamie (Brett) Roof of Cherokee, Iowa; and Nancy (Trent) Ruhland of Cherokee, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren, Blake, Tate, and Chase Perrin, Laney, Addison, Grady, and Charley Wolfswinkel, Beckett and Kennedy Roof, and Lilly and Jayce Ruhland; sister, Carol McKenna of Livermore, Iowa; brother, Frank Davis of Dakota City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Genevieve Schoon of Pocahontas, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
