She met Roger Overocker at the Roller Skating Rink in Arnolds Park and they were united in marriage on March 24, 1951. They were blessed with 5 daughters.   Joyce was a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church and served on many church committees. She was a lifetime member of the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In 2017, Joyce received the Dean of the Dickinson County Fair award for her many years of dedication to the 4-H program and volunteering at the fair. All 5 daughters were in 4-H over the years and she was excited to see her grandchildren carry on the tradition. For many years she enjoyed attending her Neighbor Friendship Club gatherings. Roger and Joyce had a wonderful group of friends that got together to play cards for many years.

Joyce loved watching all of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids in their many activities. She was their biggest cheerleader, cheering them on from the stands or from her car. Joyce was the Spirit Lake Indians biggest fan.

She loved to bake her goodies, delivering them to others to enjoy. Her garden was her pride and joy, harvesting the vegetables, canning, freezing sweet corn and enjoying everything with her family in the winter months. Joyce and Roger raised chickens on the farm. She served many Sunday chicken dinners for her family.
