A Funeral Mass for John Yore, age 91, of Milford, will be held Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford. On Thursday, June 11, at 4:45, there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford, followed by a visitation from 5:00-7:00 PM.
John was born on December 9, 1934, to Leo and Doris Yore in Guckeen, Minnesota. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1951. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1951, serving as a radar technician until 1955. He attended Mankato State Teachers College, becoming certified in Mathematics and Science in 1959. On September 1, 1956, John married Virginia (Ginny) Rathai. Their life’s journey led them through various communities including Delavan and Vernon Center, Minnesota, before settling in Milford, IA, in 1959. He began his teaching career at Milford High School in 1959, where he would dedicate his entire teaching career until his retirement from Okoboji High School in 1996.
In addition to teaching, John also coached a variety of sports including football and wrestling, along with starting the girls’ golf, softball and volleyball programs. He also served as Athletic Director for many years. In addition to the countless hours John dedicated to the Milford/Okoboji High School, he was also actively involved with the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. He played an instrumental role in starting the Knights of Columbus Annual Apple Pie Fundraiser. He served as Grand Knight for the local council and was chosen as Iowa Knight of the Year in 1986.
John passed away on June 1, 2026, at the age of 91, in Spencer, Iowa.
He is survived by Craig (Max) Anderson, Lynnette Cook, Kim (Bryan) Martin, Erin Yore; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Shari) Yore; along with many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Ginny (Virginia); his parents, Leo and Dori: and siblings Wayne, Lois, Ramona and Richard (Duke).
