Jay Evans, 77, of Okoboji and Spirit Lake, passed away on June 19, 2026, in Sioux Falls.
Jay was the son of Don and Gretchen Evans. He spent most of his life in the Okoboji and Spirit Lake area, a place he cared deeply about and wanted to see thrive.
Jay worked for many years in the hotel and motel business, where he was known for his hospitality, strong work ethic, and desire to give people a high level of service. He loved serving others and took pride in making people feel cared for.
Jay will be remembered as steady, hardworking, loyal, sharp, private, and sometimes stubborn. Above all, he cared deeply for his family and wanted the best for those he loved.
He is survived by his children, Landon Evans and his wife, Stephanie; Blake Evans, and Brittany Evans; his grandchildren, Calyn, Mia, and Nadiyah; his brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Jean Evans; and his beloved dog, Whiskers, who was with him before he passed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Gretchen Evans, and his son, Justin, who passed away at age 2½.
Jay’s family will remember his loyalty, his care, and the quiet strength he brought to their lives.
A private celebration of life will be held in August in Okoboji, with his children and grandchildren.
