Jason Michael Kelly, age 55, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away on February 20, 2025, at Accura HealthCare of Spirit Lake, after a courageous battle with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Born on October 12, 1969, to Gary and Ruth Ann (Roemer) Kelly, Jason lived a life filled with passion and dedication. He was a loving son, father, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Growing up in Spirit Lake, Jason had a deep love for music, often playing the guitar in his free time, and was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed technology- building and fixing (at least trying) and the internet. He also was an avid HAM Radio operator – N0PBG – “N-ZERO-P-B-G”, Storm Chasing, Fast cars as long as they aren’t FORDS, Boating, and sitting by the lake. Jason was a volunteer firefighter at Arnolds Park Okoboji Fire and Rescue. His lifelong dream was to become a paramedic, a dream he made a reality after attending University of Iowa and earning his Paramedic License. Jason went on to serve the community as a paramedic at Spirit Lake Regional Healthcare and Palo Alto County Hospital, where he worked until his illness led to his early retirement.
Jason was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Elizabeth “Betty” Kelly, and his maternal grandparents, Von and Beulah Roemer.
He is survived by his beloved son, Matthew (Kayla) Kelly, from his previous marriage to Tammy Werner; his grandchildren, Raelynn and Braxton Kelly; his parents, Gary and Ruth Ann Kelly; his brother, Joshua (Amy) Kelly, as well as his nephew, Benjamin Kelly, and his niece, Courtney Kelly. Jason’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. The family requests you wear casual attire – no ties.
