Geneva Schultz Knudtson died on Monday, April 8th, at the Milford Nursing Home. She was born July 27, 1925, to Henry and Amanda Schultz.
Geneva attended grade school in Castalia, Iowa, and she attended DeSales High School in Ossian, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for 2 years. She then taught at a country school near Castalia, at an elementary school in Claremont, at Okoboji Consolidated country school and Milford Community.
Geneva married M. Kenneth Knudtson on November 28, 1946. Ken and Geneva had six children, Julia, Margaret, Michael, Lynn, Jeffrey and David. They raised their family on the family farm southwest of Milford. A large garden was always part of her life, planting, harvesting, canning, etc. to feed the family. When the kids were older, she went back to teaching at Milford Community School.
As a young adult, Geneva learned to fly a plane. She loved cards, especially Bridge,and she taught bridge lessons. Geneva learned oil painting with friends, and we are now blessed with many paintings of flowers, landscape, still life, farm scenes, etc. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting and crocheting. We have the results as treasures. Geneva was an avid bird watcher, reader, and walker.
Geneva enjoyed camping, traveling, dancing and, later, wintering in Texas. She became very interested in politics and attended many events in the area.
Geneva was a devoted Catholic always making sure the family attended Mass on Sundays and received a religious education. She was a member of Catholic Daughters and she taught RCIA classes for many years.
Geneva is survived by her children Julia (Michael) Rohwer, Peggy (David) Schomburg, Michael (Linda) Knudtson, Robin Knudtson (daughter-in-law), Jeff and David Knudtson, 14 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren; brothers,Art Schultz and Lyle (Phyllis) Schultz; and sister-in-law,Marie Welle. There are many more relatives and friends left to cherish her memories. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband,Ken; her parents,Henry and Amanda Schultz; son,Lynn; daughter-in-law,Sharon Knudtson; sister-in-law,Dorothy Schultz; and nephew,Doug Schultz.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6th, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Calvary Cemetery in Milford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
