A memorial service for Gary Kastrup, age 80, of Estherville, was held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park.
Gary Lou Kastrup, the son of Loren and Esther (Sittler) Kastrup, was born on December 20, 1944, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1962 and later studied finance while serving in the United States Army.
Gary served in the Army from October 1966 until September 1969. During his service, he spent time in Germany, earned the rank of Sergeant, and was honorably discharged.
Over the years, Gary held a variety of positions, including work with Marigold, the Spencer Reporter, Fisherman’s Factory Outlet, and B&B Distribution. He also built a long and successful career in the cosmetology and salon industry. He was a sales consultant for Redken, Paul Mitchell, Nioxin, and other salon product lines, worked with models at hair shows, and put on many shows of his own. He owned two salons and later concluded his career at Polaris Industries on the ATV line and with Victory Motorcycles.
Gary was a member of the Methodist faith. He was active in several political and civic organizations throughout his life, including the John Birch Society, GOP, Oath Keepers, Constitution Party, Minutemen, Patriots Group, and Republican Party.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, politics, attending parades, music, dancing, and singing karaoke.
Gary passed away on Friday, November 7th, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after a courageous battle with cancer. Now he is doing all these special things with his family and friends in Heaven.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandy; sister, Kathi Davis; sister-in-law, Joanne Kastrup; nephew, Michael (Jeff) Kastrup; brother-in-law, Barry (Orene) Cressler and their children; mother-in-law, Inez Thomsen; and a host of friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Esther Kastrup; brother, Kent Kastrup; brothers-in-law, Andrew Davis and Terry Cressler.
