A funeral service for Ed Goehring, age 91 of Milford, will be held Friday, June 7, 2024, at 10:30am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial will be at Windom Memorial Gardens in Windom, Minnesota. A visitation for Ed will be on Thursday, June 6 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.
Ernest Edward Goehring, 91, of Milford, Iowa, died peacefully May 25, 2024. He had taken a break from caring for his flowers and was watching his favorite TV western “Gunsmoke” and simply passed during his afternoon nap.
“Ed” Goehring was born December 5, 1932, to Ernest Gustof Goehring and Gladys (Smith) Goehring. He graduated from Flandreau Public High School. In his youth, Ed enjoyed farming and playing on the undefeated Flandreau High School Football team. Later in life, at the age of 91, Ed was inducted into the Flandreau High School Hall of Fame for his football career. Upon graduation, Ed joined the army and served as Corporal during the Korean War. On December 22, 1954, he married Delores Jean Vosberg at the Presbyterian Church in Slayton, Minnesota. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage and three children. Ed was a manager for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years. Upon retirement, he worked at Sears in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as a repair technician, for 15 years. In 2010, he moved to Milford, Iowa to be close to family. Ed has always been very involved in service organizations and often served in leadership positions: Junior Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Sisseton Booster Club, Sisseton Snowmobile Club, Sisseton Kiwanis Club, Legion Drill Team, Legion 40 ET 8, Telephone Pioneers Club, Sisseton Commercial Club, Harrisburg Booster Club, South Dakota National Convention Chair, and the Okoboji Pioneer Booster Club. Edward loved to cook, bake, hunt and fish. He enjoyed sports, a good card game, especially beating everyone in cribbage, and was often found in his woodshop or garden. Ed was a wonderful man who cared deeply for his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are the couple’s three children, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Rhonda Goehring of Spokane, Washington, and her children: Jeremy, Shawna and Joshua; Randy (Brenda) Goehring of Spokane, Washington, and their children: Alex, Brandon and Chelsea; Scott (Teresa) Goehring of rural Milford, Iowa, and their children: Gabriel Goehring, Grace (Dustin) Schwaller and Allison (Seth) DeCleene; 10 great-grandchildren: Jada Morales, Aliyah Williams, Olivia Williams, Logan Williams, DeAndre Williams, Shyesha Williams, David McKinzy, Alonzo Williams and Antonio Williams, Garrett Schwaller; his sister, Claris Nord; sisters-in-law, Mary Wiens, Beverly (Jerry) Noram and Mary Lou Goehring; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Delores Goehring; his parents, Ernest Gustof and Gladys Goehring; his parents-in-law, Wilhelm “Bill” and Minnie Vosberg; brother, Curtis Goehring; brothers-in-law, Darold “Honey” Vosberg, Ronald “Tyke” Vosberg, Eldon Weins and Jerry Nord.
