Elizabeth “Liz” Inge Herigstad Lorch, 65, of Spirit Lake, passed away at her home in Spirit Lake on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
A celebration of life for Liz will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Liz was born March 10, 1956, in Ames, Iowa to Haakon and Inge (Keller) Herigstad. Liz graduated from Roland-Story High School in 1974 and received her bachelor’s degree in Speech from Iowa State University in 1978. After graduation, Liz went on to be hired as the first woman in the state of Iowa by Motorola. Over the next 23 years she sold Motorola two-way radio systems in the agriculture market. First with Motorola, and then as a communications specialist with Electronic Engineering.
Always the devoted mom, she was lucky to have a home office when her boys, Carl and Jack, were young. Whether or not they liked it, Liz was always the first to sign up as a chaperone for school field trips and volunteered for all of their class activities, including prom. Liz also served as Cub Scout leader for Carl and Jack.
In 2004, Liz joined Sanford Home Medical Equipment where she sold home medical supplies for 17 years. Liz loved her flowers and had a garden she was devoted to, taking flowers to work all the time. In her free time, she loved quilting, sewing, reading, Zumba and spending time with family.
Liz met her fiancé, Mick, in 2016. Before they met in person, they talked on the phone and texted each other for three months. When they finally met face to face, they both knew they were meant to be together. Their friendship blossomed into a deep, unshakable love for each other. They did everything together, always laughing, always loving each other, and always excited about the plans they were making for the future. Liz and Mick were truly blessed and knew they would be together forever.
Liz was preceded in death by her father, Haakon Herigstad. Left to cherish her memory are her fiancé Mick McCleery of Spirit Lake; sons Jack and Carl (Paige) Lorch, both of Spirit Lake; mother, Inge Herigstad of Roland; and brother, Garman Herigstad of Ames.
