A funeral service for Earl Sporrer, 93, of Milford, Iowa, will be held Friday December 10, at 10:30 AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford. A visitation will be held at St. Joseph Parish Center on Thursday December 9, from 5:00-7:00pm.

Earl Fred Sporrer, son of Fred and Clara Sporrer, was born July 3, 1928, in Spencer, Iowa. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Milford High School in 1946. Earl enlisted in the United States Army on October 3, 1946, and honorably served his country until February 4, 1948. Earl married Lois Meyer on May 20, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. They made their home on their farm southeast of Milford, retiring from the farm in 2008.

Earl was a longtime member of St Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and could often be found volunteering for chicken noodle dinners, baking pies, and serving pancake/sausage suppers. Earl was a founding member of the Milford SnowDrifters snowmobile club and helpedestablish the snowmobile trail system in Dickinson county. Earl was an active member of the American Legion, serving as post commander, coordinating the Sunday Bingo games, omelet breakfasts, and veterans day programs. Earl enjoyed farming, metal working, playing cards, snowmobiling, golfing, and in his later years,maintaining fairways and greens at Emerald Hills Golf Course. 

Earl could often be found anywhere his friends were gathering for a cup of coffee, was devoted to solving puzzles, keeping a well-manicured lawn, and spending time with his family.

Earl passed away December 2, 2021,at the Milford Care Center in Milford, Iowa,at ninety-three years of age. 

Preceding him in deathwere his parents, wife Lois;sisters Arlene, Delores, Marie; brothers Floyd and Jerry, and granddaughter Kylee Rae Pedersen. 

He is survived by his children, Pam (Greg) Kaiser of Milford, Iowa;Sandra (Terry) Pedersen of Altoona, Iowa;Jo Ann (Mark) Sawin of Sioux City, Iowa;and Rick (Chris) Sporrer of Nevada, Iowa; ten grandchildren:Natasha (Kent) Timmerman of Cherokee, Iowa;Jason (Ellie) Kaiser of Ankeny, Iowa;Megan (Seth) Skalicky of Everly, Iowa;Kerri (Dave) Bishop of Bondurant, Iowa;Kody Pedersen of Denver, Colorado;Katie Sawin of Sioux City, Iowa;Nick Sawin of Iowa City, Iowa;Danielle (Austin) Goodnight of Bondurant, Iowa;Clara Sporrer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Erica Sporrer of Nevada, Iowa; and nine great-grandchildren, Cole, Trey and Allysa Timmerman of Cherokee, Iowa;Addison Kaiser of Ankeny, Devon Skalicky of Everly, Iowa;and Jackson, Haylee and Grant Bishop of Bondurant, Iowa, and Marshall Goodnight of Bondurant, Iowa. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Carol Allen, of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.
