Douglas “Doug” Kness, 67, of Spirit Lake passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5-7 p.m., at the Robinson Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will take place in the Spirit Lake Memory Gardens Cemetery. People who knew Doug, know that he liked to dress casually. To honor his memory, the family requests that you dress casually for the visitation and service. Douglas Dean Kness was born on December 19, 1956, in Spirit Lake to Dale and LaVonne (Selberg) Kness. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School. He was united in marriage to Sally Seleen on April 1, 1978, in Spirit Lake. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He put in many hours helping shape the lakes area by building roads, trails and moving dirt.
In his free time, Doug enjoyed fixing up motorcycles and riding them. He and Sally went on many rides on his Goldwing. Aside from tinkering in his garage, he enjoyed attending his grandson’s sporting events.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife,Sally Kness of Spirit Lake; daughter, Jill (Chris) Bonrud of Spirit Lake; son, Darrin Kness of Spirit Lake; and grandson s, Grady and Gannon Bonrud.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David.
