Delores Ann Anderson, 85, of Grimes, Iowa, (formerly of Albert City and Spirit Lake) passed away at her home on Sunday, October 8, 2023. She was born on the family farm near Harcourt, Iowa, on August 27, 1938, to Philip and Ellen (Peterson) Johnson. She graduated from Harcourt High School in 1956. After raising her four children, she received her BSN and worked in the nursing field for many years.
Delores is survived by her children: David (Carol) Anderson, Milford, Iowa; Dale (Tracy) Anderson, Harcourt, Iowa; Mitchell (Shannon) Anderson, Eagle, Idaho; and Debra (Dean) Brushaber, Grimes, Iowa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren: Mike (Christina) Anderson (Dylan, Braden and Isabelle); Mark (Jessica) Anderson (Owen and Eden); Greg (Amanda) Anderson (Olivia and Everly); Jacob (Sarah) Anderson (Eleanor and Archer); John (Lisa) Anderson (Hank and Lily); McKinzy (Darren) Troudt (Dutton); Kash Anderson; Nick (fiancée, Rachel Grawe) Brushaber; and Ben Brushaber; sisters Lorraine Heggen and Karen (Roger) Chism; brother, Wayne Johnson; and sister-in-law, Beverly Johnson; many nieces and nephews.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Ellen Johnson; brother-in-law, Richard Heggen; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Don Kuhn; and brothers, Dean and Don.
Delores was a kind and giving soul to many, many people. She continues to give even now as per her wishes her body was donated to Des Moines University. She loved spending time with family, adventures with friends and gardening, but her favorite was to teach her grandkids to cook. We continue to try but none of us will ever make an apple pie or rye bread as good as grandma’s.
