David Ray Mann was born in Washington, Iowa, on April 25, 1957, and passed away on May 20, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Laverne Mann and Gay Dolores Bingman Mann. He is survived by his siblings, Debbie Granberry of Cuero, Texas; twin sister, Diane Bardin of Wylie, Texas; and Douglas Mann of Elkton, Maryland.
David’s family and friends will remember him as a giving and caring guy. He was highly intelligent and a freelance artist. He loved to cook and bake and left trails of quiche and cookies wherever he went. He blessed his family with much fun and laughter. He brought so much joy to everyone he knew.
David traveled all over the world as a flight attendant for most of his life. Among his adventures, he attended to soldiers coming and going from the Gulf wars and even helped evacuate Afghanistan. He received a medal for his Gulf War service. David was well known by his coworkers and passengers for his hoot owl imitation.
Lately, David worked at the YMCA in Spencer, Iowa, and he enjoyed his many relationships there with his coworkers and members.
In the words of David from his last will and testament:
Instead of flowers, monetary gifts to the “Make-a-Wish” foundation would be my wish! If someone would plant a dogwood tree for me somewhere, that would be great. These are my final wishes.
All of my love and thankfulness. Please know that I have cherished the small amount of time I have had with my beloved family and friends.
Love, David Mann
