A Mass of Christian Burial for Dave Determan, age 69, of Milford, was held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford.
David Darial Determan was born in Estherville, Iowa, on June 30, 1954, to Dorothy (Gruhn) and Darial Determan. Dave passed away peacefully at his home in Milford on June 25, 2024.
Dave graduated from Terril Community School in 1972 and then went on to ILCC to pursue a degree in Ag Business.
Dave married Kathy (Rolling) on December 5, 1981, and together they raised two daughters, Jessi and Lexy, on the home farm west of Terril. In 2015, Dave and Kathy moved to Arnolds Park.
Dave stayed busy, working as a farmer, bus driver, and volunteer at the local food pantry. He also found joy and impacted many lives coaching junior high girls and boys basketball. In the summers, you could find Dave at a softball diamond. Dave took great pride in marking the diamond for home games. He enthusiastically coached first base telling every runner to hustle it out because “you never know!” He also enjoyed spending summers working at Triggs Bay Resort, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his co-workers. He especially enjoyed working with the college and high school-age employees.
In his rare down time, you could find Dave watching a game on TV. Dave loved watching the Twins and the Hawkeyes. Being a unanimous all conference basketball player and a stand out football player himself, Dave enjoyed watching any team play football or basketball. Dave spent many hours in the gym with his daughters as well, catching and shooting hoops.
Dave enjoyed old cars and old tractors. He dreamt of going on a tractor ride someday with his 970 Case.
Dave will be dearly missed by his wife Kathy Determan; daughters, Jessi (Nick) Bradley and Lexy (Jens) Determan-Henningsen; grandchildren, Koltyn (Brittany) Bradley, Morgan (Bryce) Ellenbecker, Keegan Bradley, Anika Henningsen and Kora Henningsen; great-grandson, Beckett Bradley and one on the way; sister, Patty Determan and brother, Mike (Kay) Determan and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Darial and Dorothy Determan; grandparents, Leo and Clara Determan and Fred and Gertrude Gruhn; sister, Mickey Jensen and brother-in-law, Robert Jensen.
Turner Jenness Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
