Darryl K. Halling passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Sibley Community Hospital.
Darryl was born August 17, 1938, in Storm Lake, Iowa. His parents were John Ernst Halling and Sybil Dokken Halling.
Darryl spent his growing up years in Storm Lake with his two brothers,Wayne and Gene,enjoying all activities surrounding all things with the lake.
Darryl graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1956. From there he earned a degree in Geology at The University of Wyoming in Laramie. Having known of The World School System through The Department of Defense,he passed this goal teaching two years at Charles City, Iowa. After his two years, he obtained a teaching position in Ethiopia,Africa, where he hunted wild boar; from there onto the Philippines,Japan, Turkey, Germany and England. He was later offered a position with his office in London. He was the science and outdoor education coordinator for nine countries in the Atlantic Region, which were our Army and Air Force based schools. In that time, he became active in one of the first “Outward Bound” programs. They educated the troubled youth through camping, hiking, outdoor survival and mountain climbing. This changed their mindset away from their problems. Being a very charismatic guy,he enjoyed meeting many dignitaries from all over the world. He enjoyed conversations about his job and his travels. During that time he earned two more degrees relating to his field.
He married Amy Ralston in Madagascar in 1991. They settled near London where he continued his profession. After retiring in 1994, he returned to Iowa where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with brother Gene. Darryl was active in many causes here at the Lakes including Lakeside Lab and water quality control. He was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors and he really preferred bow hunting.
Darryl was preceded in death by both parents and an older brother, Wayne.
He is survived by his younger brother Gene,and his wife Amy Ralston. Also, nieces Stacey Halling Caskey and Julie Halling Hoefling of Spencer.
