A Memorial Service for Dan Tryon, age 65, of Spirit Lake, will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church. A come and go Celebration of Life Gathering will follow at The Venue, in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin at 12:30 until service time at the church. A burial will be at Merle Hay Cemetery in Glidden, Iowa at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18th, followed by a meal at Albert Kruger Sr. Shelter in Glidden.
Danny Dale Tryon was born January 7, 1961, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Dale Lee Tryon and Janet Ann Tryon. Dan graduated from Ames High School in 1979 and later graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in accounting.
On April 4, 1998, Dan married Connie Marie Tryon in Estherville, Iowa. Throughout his life, Dan lived in Manson, Audubon, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Spencer and Ames, Iowa; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Richmond, Virginia; and Estherville, Iowa, before making their home in Spirit Lake in 2000.
Dan was a businessman of all trades. He started out as an accountant for DPR and went on to co-own Sportsmans, The Funny Barn Comedy Club, Cardio Plus 24 Hour Health Club, Great Lakes Pizza and Consignment Corner with his brothers. He was also greatly involved at The Venue and owned franchises for Principal Financial Group and Murphy Business.
Dan was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the church board at Grace Lutheran Church, and regularly attended Brooks Golf League and Pool League each week. Dan loved staying active by biking, weightlifting and golfing. His love for biking led him to organizing many rides, including BRASL, the Tiki Ride and RAGBRAI. His love for golf helped him organize the Sportsmans Labor Day Golf Tournament. He loved to organize these events and any spreadsheets that went along with them.
He loved any and all sports, but most of all Iowa State football and tailgates and the Green Bay Packers. Dan loved coaching and motivating others. He taught many workout classes at Cardio Plus, his greatest business passion. He even coached his daughter Katie’s little league for many years and practiced with her every day.
Dan was first and foremost a family man who loved his friends and quality time spent with others. He loved to travel, especially to see distant family and friends. He was a man of many talents and hobbies that all tied back to spending time with family and friends and helping others.
Dan passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Dan is survived by his wife, Connie Tryon of 28 years in Spirit Lake, Iowa; son, Aaron Kruse of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter, Katie Tryon of Elkhorn, Nebraska; mother, Janet Tryon of Ames, Iowa; sister, Jodie (Doug) Stokke of Story City, Iowa; brother, Donnie Tryon of Spirit Lake, Iowa; brother, Dave (Michelle) Tryon of Spirit Lake, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Melody (Nicholas) Rudolph; Janine (Alex) Tate of Kansas City, Kansas; Michael Kruse of Estherville, Iowa; Mark (Cathy) Kruse of Williston, North Dakota; Karla Kruse of Spirit Lake, Iowa; AJ (Senita) Tate of Kansas City, Kansas; Zachary Tate of Kansas City, Kansas; Carson (Jean) Kruse of Williston, North Dakota; Carly Kruse of Bosnia; Adjoni Parker of San Jose, California; Justin Parker of San Jose, California; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Tryon of Ames, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Dorothy Tryon of Glidden, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Emanuel and Lucille Petersen of Glidden, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
