Anna Louise Sonius was born April 3, 1928, at Pomeroy, Iowa, to Reinder H. Sonius and Folena Wiemers Sonius. She was the third daughter, and two years later a brother was born. She was baptized as an infant in Pomeroy and was confirmed and became a member of Zion United Methodist Church in rural Spencer.
When she was four years old, the family moved to their farm northwest of Spencer. She attended country school and graduated from Spencer High School.
For many years she worked as a dental assistant. In 1969 she joined the staff as a clerk in Medical Records of Spencer Hospital, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and advanced to become the Supervisor of that department.
On December 8, 1974, she married Robert Gibson, a wonderful, kind farmer of Greenville, Iowa. He liked to travel and looked forward to their vacations as much as she did and to planning the next trip. They traveled to many places in the United States, including Alaska; twice to Hawaii; ten countries in Europe; and the Bahamas.
In 1995 Bob retired from farming, and they moved to a house in Spencer that he had his eye on for several years. They enjoyed afternoon coffee, usually at A & W.
Anna taught children’s Sunday School for many years and was church organist since 1960 and pianist prior to that. She was very proud to have played the organ for 70 years until losing her eyesight.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert, in September 2006; sister, Bertha Mae, in 1976; brother, Henry, in May 2006, and sister, Mary Schmidt, in 2023.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Sonius; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; other relatives, and many friends.
