A visitation for Evonne Duhn, 94, of Spirit Lake, was held Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. A private family graveside service was held at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Okoboji. Memorials in honor of Evonne may be directed to Lakes Regional Hospice at 2323 US 71, Spirit Lake, IA 51360 or a charity of your choice.
Evonne Carol Duhn, the daughter of Ed and Alice Marxen, was born on July 27, 1930, on a farm near Terril, Iowa. She graduated in 1948 from Graettinger High School. She worked at F.W. Woolworth in Spencer, Iowa.
She married Raymond “Rocky” Duhn on November 6, 1949, in Graettinger, Iowa. They began farming in Graettinger and, after ten years, moved to Spirit Lake where they both worked at Berkley & Co., Rocky for thirty-one years and Evonne for twenty-four years.
Evonne was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cross-stitching, making over 50 pairs of pillowcases for family members.She also enjoyed embroidery work, poem writing, and BINGO.
She moved to Sunrise Apartments in 2019 and then, due to poor health, moved into Accura Healthcare in July of 2024. Evonne passed away September 1, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Evonne is survived by her six children: Rodney (Judy Schuett) Duhn, Eileen (Steve) Whitehouse, Steven (Cheryl) Duhn, Jerold Duhn, Sheryl (Guy) Petrik, and Joleen (Richard) Helms; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was proud of her family and honored to have four sets of twins.She was also survived by sister-in-law, Betty Kane and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband of almost 70 years, Raymond; parents, Ed and Alice Marxen; as well as three brothers and one sister.
Turner Jenness Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
